June 14-19, 5 days with Greg Scharf and Carol Wilson
Wise View and the Heart of Wisdom
Insight, or Vipassana meditation is the simple direct practice of moment-to-moment observation of the mind/body process with relaxed, open and careful attention. Awareness, free from confusion, reveals that whatever arises in experience, including ourselves, is simply the natural display of impersonal conditions giving rise to lawful effects. As we learn to observe our experience from a place of stillness and balance, supported by wise view, reality is accurately recognized and liberating insight arises as a natural result.
This silent retreat, suitable for beginning as well as experienced students, will draw on teachings from various Buddhist meditative traditions, emphasizing continuity of present moment awareness as the foundation for clear seeing and the arising of liberating wisdom. Daily instructions and group discussions will be offered.
Greg Scharf has practiced with Western and Asian teachers in the Theravada tradition since 1992, and has been teaching residential retreats since 2007. His teaching emphasizes the confluence of love and wisdom on the path to liberation.
Carol Wilson, an IMS guiding teacher, has practiced insight meditation since 1971 with a variety of teachers, including Sayadaw U Pandita and Ashin U Tejaniya, as well as spending a year as a nun in Thailand. She has offered retreats worldwide since 1986, including the annual IMS Three-Month course
