RETREAT DESCRIPTION
There is an African Proverb that says: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Together, we are stronger and more resilient and can support one another to go a little bit further on the path towards Awakening. This retreat is about just that; supporting each other to strengthen our meditation practice. We will integrate the wisdom practice of the four foundations of mindfulness and the heart practice of the Compassion to cultivate connection, inner strength, and deep stillness.
This retreat, specifically for people who self-identify as Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color, will enable those with no meditation practice to learn meditation techniques and experience the support of a weekend retreat. It will also enable those with experience to have an opportunity for a longer, fuller 5 day retreat.
The retreat will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, chanting, and mindful movement. In addition to daily dhamma talks, there will be opportunities for dialogue with the teacher as well as small group practice meetings.
Experience prerequisite: successful completion of at least one 4-day residential, silent Buddhist meditation retreat.
Please consider attending this retreat only if your current life circumstances allow you to engage in an important modern renunciation practice of staying offline and off phone/text during the entire course of the retreat (some exceptions related to pressing family situations may be granted.)
