RETREAT DESCRIPTION

The whole reason to study and practice the Dhamma is to find peace from suffering. Unshakeable peace is not found in agreeable external conditions. It is cultivated as an internal ground. It is the resilience needed to fully show up in the world in the midst of agreeable and disagreeable external conditions.

We tend to conceive ourselves in the world through our senses which makes us reactive. This reactivity keeps us in movement. Unshakeable peace is about cultivating awareness of the natural stillness of the heart. When we conceive ourselves in the world through our hearts, we can be responsive rather than reactive. During this retreat, we will explore the distinction between living our lives through external sense contact and trusting our internal wisdom.

There will be practice instructions at the beginning of each day and alternating sitting and walking periods. There will be practice discussion groups and time for questions and answers.

The retreat will be held in noble silence from the first evening until the last day, including a requirement to turn off and put away all electronic devices. We welcome all people from widely diverse communities and backgrounds. This retreat is suitable for both experienced meditators and those who have never attended a residential retreat.

Partial attendance is not offered on this retreat. Additionally, please consider attending this retreat only if your current life circumstances allow you to engage in an important modern renunciation practice of staying offline and off phone/text during the entire course of the retreat (some exceptions related to pressing family situations may be granted.)
